Dhaka neighborhoods close streets after overnight rain

Three residential lanes in Dhaka stayed closed this morning after overnight rain left water above the curb. Ward offices asked families to move scooters to higher ground and to use the main road until pumps finish the side streets.
Pump crews started at first light on the lanes behind the weekend market. Shopkeepers stacked rice sacks on pallets and kept the front shutters half open so customers could still buy oil, milk, and phone credit.
The city desk said the water is rainwater, not river water, and that the main bus road stayed open. Schools on the affected lanes sent a note asking parents to use the north gate.
Families who need a dry place for the afternoon can use the community room at the ward office until 6 pm. The office is taking names of households that still have water inside the ground-floor rooms.
